Well as some of you may have seen in my other thread, got hold of a netbook but want to remove all the manufactorers crap.
Managed to get a windows 7 disc ran this set it to windows 7 starter (as my netbook is installed with) Wiped the hdd as normal installed win 7 starter entered the product key from underneath the machine and it is saying the key is not a valid windows 7 key.
I have triple checked and i typed it in right, But still the same message.
Anyone shed any light on this???

Thanks

Normally I'd say that the key is OEM and the disc is retail, which is why the key is not valid for that media, but to my knowledge Starter is only available as OEM so I'm not sure.

Is the disc retail? And how did you prep it to install Starter edition?

Well i did not have a disc as its a netbook so didn't come with one.
I was advised i would have to download one, The windows 7 i got came with all versions on it including starter.

One thing i have noticed is that in the bottom right corner of the desktop, It says something about being Evaluation copy build 7100.

Does that mean anything? Also i didn't think you had oem and retail discs anymore??

Ahh right ok that makes a little more sense lol
Excuse my lack of knowledge but what does rtm mean?

Thanks

Does this mean i'm going to have to buy Windows 7 home premium or something now?

Not good :(

Well thank goodness for that. Managed to get hold of the right version of windows installed and all activated.
There was a few times the netbook nearly went out of the window and its only 2 days old lol.

Thanks for the help.
