Hi all,

I recieved a 4000+ A64 and it struggles to get above 2800mhz even with 1.7volts!!! is this rediculously bad an overclocker, I think I must be well unlucky here.

The whole setup ran a 3500+ Venice upto 3221MHz with no problems and the RAM can go upto 250MHz so that should be good for at least 3GHz given the 4000+'s 12x multiplier.

any help much aprechiated,

regards

No athlon 64 chip are great clockers compared to the core 2 . If you had a 3.5 chip overclocked to 3221 mhz , why bother with a 4 gig chip. I gave up trying to get good performance out of the Athlon 64`s , Intel saw to that.

thanks for the replies

stepping: KAB2E 0548 FPFW

i had the htt multiplier on 3x

and the ram divider on 2/1.83 so it runs at 3/4 of the fsb speed or there abouts.

i think its just the worst overclocker ive ever seen, managed to get under 30s super pi with it thats the best it can even get on air lol.

hmm...

The stepping i had is very similar....but it was a great clocker
I had a 3700 Sandy KAB2E 0546BPAW that clocked to 2.75ghz on 1.475 vcore with mid-high 40c load. It was stable at 2.9ghz 1.5vcore but I didn't want to run 1.525 on air.

I've had 3 sandiego cores recently 1x4000+(2months ago from oc'uk) and 2x3700+'s(purchased last week,KAB1E from OC'UK,KACAE from elsewhere)the 4000+ is a KAB1E 0626,this is a very recent stepping and clocks brilliantly, currently running it under watercooling in my main system @3.24 with a vcore of 1.475.

The 3700+'s..... firstly a KACAE0552 which to be honest is a very poor clocker, only managed 2.7 with high vcore!(500mhz?not to be sniffed at I s'pose)

The second 3700+ I bought from OC'UK last week, it's a KAB1E 0620,I haven't tried it under water yet but with an Arctic cooling Freezer Pro I've managed to get it stable at 3ghz with low vcore,I would imagine underwater it will do roughly the same as my KAB1E 4000+.

I think the year and week number are what you need to look for,06 and the latest week you can find will more than likely get you a great clocker!

Not wishing to blow OC'UK's trumpet too loudly(they do a damn good job of that themselves!:D) But they do seem to have year 06 and late week Sandiego's in stock, other etailors seem to be carrying older stock!

yeah that is true for me too...both the a64s ive bought off overclockers have been recent steppings, I happenend to buy the 4000+ off a competitor as OcUK hadnt any.
