I have a i7 920 cpu default at 2.67ghz

I used a gigabyte overclocking tool called smart six to overclock my cpu from 2.67 to 3.20 ghz

However when I use the cpu-z proframme it does not show that the speed on my cpu has increased?

How or where can I see that my cpu has been sucessfully overclocked to 3.2?

Any suggestions?

Also on a i7 920 what the safest and highest you can overclock to ?

Thanks

What version is your cpu - D0 or C0 version, cpu-z should show.

I would recommend using the BIOS to overclock, most will do 4ghz + with ease :)

I have mine at 4ghz at 1.28v.

Its D0

See the thing is, i wouldn't have a clue on what to do in the bios, when I go there it confuses me. I get my info from forums and reviews. I know many people have overclocked their 920s at 4 ghz with no issues.

The programme Ive got wont go over 3.2

On cpu z the core speed is showing at 1619.2 mhz and core voltage at 0.928volts.

The issue is on smart6 it shows the i7 920 cpu is overclocked at 3.2 but cpu z shows clock speed at 1619.2mhz

Maybe its becuase the computer is not at full load ? I could try playing crisis at extreme settings and then maybe cpuz will show higher figures?

Run a CPU stress test like this and you should see the CPU speed increase. This is cause by Intel "speedstep" which saves power when the CPU is under light use.

there's a few guides out there, i7s are very easy to OC, I had my C0 at 3.8 but now running at 3.2 with stock voltage
