You can use GetDataBack to get the stuff back.

mind you, i did lose a tonne of photos of me n the missus from the first year we were together. nothin smutty like, just y'know
"ahh, that was out first ice cream together" and such cr@p....
so much trouble for that. i ended up buying a new computer and giving her my old one with the pics on.... actually worked out rather well for me considering!

There's PC Tools File Recover which could be worth a look-see.
The trial will only scan your HDD but it indicates if something can be recovered or not; full version needed to recover files.
