If I was to buy a 7.1 sound card, will I still be able to use 5.1 speakers and headphones with it? Silly question I know, but I need reassurance every time I go to buy something. :p

Oh, one more thing, if I was to use 5.1 speakers during the day, and often switch to 5.1 headphones at night, how do I go about avoiding having to mess around with speaker jacks at the back of my PC every time I change them? I've seen something about an amp box provided with the Speedlink 5.1 headset, does that do this job?

Many thanks for any help.

Hi mate,

Yeah definately can. My mate has a 5.1 system running off a 7.1 audigy. What card you thinkin of gettin? Would recommend x-fi and have heard that the HDA Digital X-Plosion 7.1 DTS Connect PCI Dolby Soundcard (SC-003-HT) is stuning to, but dont know your budget though.

I do the same as what your saying wit speakers/headphones. I have to fiddle round and plug em in because of x-fi console. z-2300 do have a slot for headphones but not mic which is useless to me because of clan matches etc and not being able to talk.

will have to see what someone else says because that would be useful to me as well.

Thanks for the reply. :) My budget is pretty small, was going to go with the cheapest Creative 7.1 card on the OcUK site, but if I'm going to have to go around the back of my PC every time I want to switch to headphones then I'll have to look for something different (the back of my PC is hard to get to.)

Well, after some digging around, I found this picture:

It seems you get some kind of control box with the Medusa Headset that allows you to have the speakers and heaphones plugged in at the same time, can anyone that owns this headset confirm this? :p
