Very Slow boot

think this is the right place for this.

i have an acer laptop here, decent spec (2gb RAM, dual core Pentium etc,128mb separate graphics card, standard stuff)

anyway it takes a long time to boot vista. talking 10-15 minutes, but once its finally loaded it runs fine. i can restart it and it restarts normally, just takes a minute or 2. just the initial boot after a shutdown takes forever.

i therefore assumed it was a vista problem so i used the resotre partition to return it to factory defaults. made no difference.

totally baffled by it, i can also presume now its a hardware issue but why then does it run fine once its booted?

I'd try a boot into safe mode and see if that is also slow. If not then it's an issue with drivers and/or any TSR's that load. If you are using external equipment - mouse, keyboard, monitor etc etc then disconnect everything and try that as sometimes a peripheral can drag a boot down. Also when in windows check the event logs to see if there are any probs (a mate's laptop was rebooting all on its own and the event logs showed HDD faulty with constant errors at the time of boot, saved loadsa headaches diagnosing everything else)

Anyway, hope that helps and good luck!
