Very slow connection

I've been having some problems for the last 3/4 days and am getting nowhere with sorting it out, just wondered if anyone here has any ideas.

Currently on upto 8meg adsl with Plusnet (have been for over a year) and they've generally been fine but i'm currently getting d/l speeds that would make dial-up look good (seriously, 56k would be an improvement) although there are occasional spikes of decent speed they only last a couple of seconds.

I'm not completely cluless but I'm no expert so I've done as much as I know how to at my end (virus scan, anti-spyware, different microfilter, disconnecting other telephony stuff, rebooting the modem) and no improvement. Tried their on-line diagnotics and got told everything is fine, raised a ticket and got an automated reply saying ... everything is fine.

btw using XP, fully patched to date & Netgear DG834 v2

Help

What package do you have with Plusnet.

You see I have plus net set up for my perents with 3Gig limit and everytime I exceed 3gig I experience very very slow connection until the end of the connection month.

Could be that... Or...

Microfilter needs changing, was it ok before?

when did you experience the problems?

At time of day?

Is it only one PC you connecting to the internet...

I sound like the guys from PlusNet. :p

I'm nowhere near my limit and have tried a different microfilter etc. Problems occur 24/7 for the last 3 or 4 days. I Do have 2 PC's but the other 1 hasn't even been turned on for weeks.

Call PlusNet and ask them if you have exceeded your limit... as you are experiencing very slow connection....

Trust me try it.... :)

If the BT Speedtest's slow, it's got nothing to do with Plusnet...

What modem are you using, and can you gets stats (attenuation, SNR margin, current sync rate - instructions for the first two for some routers in the FAQ) out of it?

Yeah ....

I would assume you have exceeded your limit

I have around 29.5GB peak time and something like 98GB off peak left before they'll even look at my useage so trust me, I haven't
