I have the 4mb internet package with Virgin Media but over the past few days the internet has been running extremely slow. I've done a few speed test and they range from 48kbps to 200kbps. Obviously I should be getting much closer to 4000kbps.

I spoke to Virgin for ages today and they did all their tests and said everything is fine their end and it must be my ethernet connection. I explained I'd tried several different ethernet cables and all have the same result so if it is the ethernet connection it must be the modem at fault. They disagreed.
They don't support ethernet connections either!

Anyone else been having problems with them?

EDIT: Just to add... even when my download speed was slow yesterday, the upload speed was maxing out at the speed it should do during the tests.

How can they not support ethernet when I got my modem I had a USB and ethernet cable?

I think this upgrade 20meg rollout may be draggin things down, mine was stop on for years until the other month.... I called and they gave my proxy server detials to put in my LAN settings? Worked a treat ...NOT... stopped MSN and a few other things working...

Took them out and will wait and see if things get any better?

may move the 'Be' if this carrys on

No idea, just what they told me!

I've just spoken to them again and they're sending me a replacement modem to see if it makes any difference.

Cable Modems rarely if ever 'go slow'. It'll either work or it won't work, you don't get much of a grey area in between so i'd be surprised if this worked. Did they check signal levels and was this uk based tech support or the indian outfit ? Also they do support ethernet and it's the preferred option, whoever you spoke too seems to have no clue about what they were doing.

Check out some of the threads on this forum.

Seems like everybody is having major troubles with their download speeds right now. I'm on the 4Mb tier but speedtests show it as less than 400k.

I'm hoping this has somthing to do with the speed upgrade that will be happening on the 1st of May, well i hope so. I've been on 4mb for ages, and ever since they installed a new modem to replace the STB modem, the speed has dropped to below 1mb.

UPDATE:

Received the replacement modem today, plugged it in, phoned to activate and so far I'm back at just about 4mb speed :)

So either the modem was at fault or when I phoned to activate they did 'something'
