Very slow local network data transfer?

Hi there,

Excuse my ignorance here, but I seem to be getting very slow transfer speeds on my local network.

Basically, I want to copy my movies from my main PC to a new hard drive in my HTPC, so I have shared the relevant hard drives on the network and started to copy the files across with TeraCopy and just windows, TeraCopy is a little faster but still only maximum of 3mb/s? Gonna take over 4 days at this rate. :p

Is that really slow? If so what is limiting the speed? I'm with Plusnet and just have their standard router, could that be the issue?

Thanks. :)

Wired ports should be 1000Mbps, unless you have crap hardware.

Don't use power line or wireless.

Something is certainly broken if you're only getting 3Mb/s.

I always get 1000Mb/s if the hard drives are less than a few years old. Even on old hard drives I get ~700Mb/s.

First port of call is to get rid of those joke items known as powerline adapters.

It's almost certainly 3MB/s rather than 3Mb/s, but that's still fairly poor even for a Powerline connection.

Unlikely your seeing a real 1000Mb/s. I'm yet to see a true 125MB/s transfer even on simulated traffic.
