VERY Slow transfer to USB Drive - *Fixed* IRQ problem solution attached.

Hi there,

My transfer of files over USB2.0 has dropped to about 2.5mb a second. This is rubbish, i think it was at 12mb a second usually. I installed a Realtek, Networking - Realtek RTL/8169/8110 Familly PCI Gigabit Ethernet NIC (NDIS 6.0) update just today.

I have tried to remove the update, by going to Control Panel> Program & Features > Installed updates. But the only updates listed are windows defender and security updates and a few adobe ones...

Just for more info, after a 1gb file to my USB drive, i pluged it into my parents' laptop and it was miles faster. I am on Vista 64bit.

ps. Im really confused as the driver is for my on board network card and its really screwing with my USB... dunno whats up any help is much appreciated.

/edit i have also tried coping to a USB laptop HD. also 2.5mb/sec is top speed. used to be 12mb at least.

Fixed the problem.... I did a lil digging around and found that IRQ's when they conflict or theres too many on an IRQ it will slow down USB transfer to a halt... So i looked up my IRQ list by typing "msinfo32" into RUN.

Then on the left i clicked IRQ and below is the list:

IRQ-1.jpg

You can clearly see that my Realtek network port 1 and Intel's enhanced USB2 controll are both on IRQ 23. So all i did was plug my network cable into slot 2 and its back to 15+mb a sec to my USB harddrive. Phew... cuz it slowed down to 200kb/sec lol which is slower than most ppl's broadband lol.
