Hey all.

Sis gave me a tiny slow cooker awhile ago and doing a lamb casserole today, just bunged it on just 5 mins ago on low. How long you reckon it would take, i might do dumplings near the end depends if room in it. The settings on the thing is high or low or auto. Was hoping to do it earlier but got up late, im hoping it might be done for 7pm but no idea really. Any ideas?

Whats in is about a small handful of washed splt pea and barley mix stuff, sliced red onion about a small handful, a bit of veg mix from asda again about a small handful and 300g of diced lamb its the new value stuff from asda for £3 which is just like normal but a little bit of fat still on which i hope will dissolve through slow cooking. Then i added a knoxx cube of lamb type and added a bunch of herbs like cayne pepper a dash, a dash of minced garlic, dash of ground ginger and dashes of parsley and coriander and a bit of salt oh and tiny bit of rosemary. Duno what it will taste like but smelled nice. Then mixed it all up after i poured the liquid over the stuff.

When doing things on low I tend to leave for 6 to 8 hours, if I have it on high it's usually on for 4.

If on low it's usually best to leave for as long as poss as this is how all the flavours infuse and the meat becomes a lot more tender.

Hmm guess a late meal then, so around 9pm the earliest i should think about having it then yeah? If started about 3pm. Just hoping tho that the veg mix from asda is ok as it said the 8th on it. :p Should be ok, had a smell and smelt the onions but didnt seem off putting or anything imo.

Have you used it before?

I'd stick it on high then check it at six of seven, if everything is cooked to an edible level then either put it onto low or eat it.

Used it a couple of times but i dont think i got the timings right and so thought id ask for a bit more of a specific time to take off low.

low defo going to be close to 8 hours, altho if a find a new recipe a try it over the weekend to make sure its going to be ok. Before a cook it through the week when am workin.

set it to HIGH

low is for people who stick it cooking and go to work or do it over night

auto on them usually means medium but just toggles between low and high

Ok got half of it out as its been about 6 and a half hours now. Gona dig in as looks nice.

Keeping the rest in a for a bit for later. Wonder if it will be ok to leave it on low till tomorrow if i stick a bit more hot water in?

Edit - I did notice it was a bit low on liquids, and just had a bit of the lamb. Lamb tasted nice and soft and stuff as you would expect but felt a little dry. Wonder how to get it a bit more moist next time. Couldnt really put much more liquid in at the start as it was near the top.
