Hi Guy's,

This issue is rather odd and i could do with some advice!

basically when i restart my computer the system posts but the graphics card does not display anything, it's just a black screen. I didn't realise at first because my speakers were low, but you hear the vista login sound. This issue only happens with a restart, if i shut down and cold boot everything works fine.

In order to get it to work again from a restart i literally have to hard reset my comp from the mains, pressing the reset button doesn't work.

my system is running totally stable @ 3.4ghz my specs are as follows.

C2D 6420
asus pk5 deluxe
x-fi
sapphire 4870
74gb raptor

i initially thought it was a stability issue with my OC on my comp but it appears not to be the case, tested the memory with memtest before i realised the system was posting into vista.

Interesting the issue seems to go away when i run at stock settings on my cpu?!?! i can restart with no issues.

The issue was sporadic but appears to have got worse over the past week.

i've updated my mobo bios but still the same issue.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance

cheers

i get this on my amd system, the fix was to disable all of the power saving features, maybe it will work for you too

c1e/speedstep etc

already done that mate.

Such a strange issue, i just don't know what it could be really.

just seems strange it only affects it from a restart....

I just got a blue screen of death a moment ago, this is the first time i've experienced this on my current system. I was simply watching a video, not even full screen.

Is the BSOD always related to system memory of could it be the graphics card causeing this?

memtest was all clear too

You havn't, everyone else has. :p

Heres your fix, was in your OP. :D

Well obviously it is related to the overclock but the system is totally stable once in windows. Since it's been at stock settings it hasn't seemed to happen again though.

Running at stock isn't quite the fix i was looking for LoadsaMoney!!

Windows does boot fine with the overclock, it just appears that the graphics card doesn't kick in again upon a restart with the OC in place.

it's as if you have to clear the CMOS before the graphics card will display anything.

I'm just about to buy another mobo battery to see if that fixes it.

Very much doubt its the psu either as its a Enermax Galaxy 1000W, i'd imagine it would have beeped at me if that were the case.

It's just strange that it only happens when i restart the system.

Cheers

It is NOT a stable overclock if this is happening.

Case and point.

The cmos thing is just the difference between a soft/hard boot and a resume.

Try upping the voltage, or dropping the clock a little.

The strange thing is that the OC has been stable for the past year or so, unless it is degrading obviously.

I'm starting to lean towards it being G card related. The system actually boots, you can hear windows login. it's just the graphics card that doesn't seem to be doing anything..

It could be a driver issue, but I really doubt it.

If you want the clock, try upping the voltage and see.

Well If it's blank before windows even loads it's got to be Bios/hardware end off !!
Can You get into the bios...I guess You can and Have

You need to Clarify the Problem exactly, Blank, post or Blank, windows ?
