Ok so I just upgraded my PSU and GPU (to this and this respectively)

With the GTX460 plugged into the system, everything appears to boot normally and I get the Windows 7 loading screen (with the little circling colour blobs) but as soon as I get to the desktop the screen only displays a thin, horizontal strip across the top. The rest of the screen is black.

I can see the top of the Recycle Bin icon, and can move my mouse cursor up into the little gap, and right click to get the desktop menu, etc. but the rest of the screen is still black.

Just to clarify: I can see full screen display fine as Win is booting, but as soon as I reach the desktop I can only see a thin strip at the top.

The GPU's fans are both spinning and both 6 pin PCI-E cables from the PSU are plugged in, so it seems to have power.

I've now swapped back to my Sapphire HD 2600XT card, uninstalled the drivers, and retried the GTX460 but I'm still getting the same issue. Tried a different monitor, same.

My mobo only has one PCI-e slot, so I'm unable to try a different one.

Mobo is: Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L iP35
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E4300
RAM: 4x Kingston 1GB DDR2 667MHz

Anyone have any idea what's going on?? :(

Make sure you have all the power cables connected to the mobo properly, if you can try your old PSU with the ATI card and if it works fine that would indicate the XFX PSU being the problem. If still screwed it could be your PCI-E slot is faulty.

It could be an OS problem, something got corrupted in the registry and its screwing your display up. Have you tried booting in to safe mode?

I appear to have solved it thanks to the suggestion in this post here!

I left my monitor turned off while the machine booted up, and when I switched it on afterwards I could see the full desktop and was able to install drivers etc. and it's booting up correctly every time now.

Very strange! But thanks have to go out to the OCUK forum populace for providing me with an answer which would have otherwise completely stumped me.

Edit: Just to respond to your question Raven, aye I tried safe mode and will still getting the same issue. Thanks for your suggestions though, very much appreciated.
