I've just moved my server from the small case it was in before into a larger one due to running out of space for drives, anyway the rebuild went without issue that was until i booted up apon doing so i was greeted with a black screen so i restarted and the same so powered down and checked everything and all the leads and connections were in place so thought the psu was to blame so removed the one out of the other case that worked perfect for well over a year and got the same result retried a couple of times and nothing so removed ram ect and reseated no change so decided to reset the bios and it fired up :D......

...... but after resetting the time and all the other bits in the bios saved and exited and got a blue screen no message or anything as its still in the bios so reset it and got a black screen so i waited to see if anything changed and nothing..... so by this time i was getting a little ****ed off so reset the bios and instead of entering the bios i just f1 to continue and it works the only problem is if the power go's off ext or windows decides to install updates and reboot i get the same old black screen :(

now before i get onto spec i did and still do have a problem when i first start the pc it don't pick up the hdd's or sometimes 1 or 2 of them i don't know if it's all part of the same fault or not just thought i would say and hey may as well, hopefully a fix may come up :D

right the spec:

athlon x2 3600+ stock with sunbeam cc something or other well over kill and temps are low around 20-30'c
Abit AN-M2HD
ocz 800MHz 2Gb
psu std 500w removed from a pc of higher spec and power requirements and run perfect
HDD's 3 1.5Tb Samsung f2's + 1 750Gb f1
and that's about it apart from 1x 120mm fan

any help would be most appreciated :)

Just a daft thought more than anything try changing the kettle lead going in to your PSU and see if that helps also make sure that all the power cables are fully plugged in. Do you have a surge protector for the system?

yep i have a couple of kettle leads plugged in as spares as i sometimes move my gaming rig into the front room for a bit of large screen gaming goodness :), also checked and rechecked connections to the mobo and all sockets in the house with more than a toaster plugged in has a surge protector

Perhaps try unplugging all but one HDD and see if it fires up properly and then add then next one and so on.

No I have tried the hdmi lead on my ps3 and also connected it upto a normal VGA screen and hdmi to my monitor with no effect and once it's running its fine???

Could be a hardware issue then maybe, try my suggestion in my previous post and see what that turns up (I edited the post before you replied so hence your reply doesn't make sense sorry about that).

Yeah see what you mean about it not making sence LoL yeah I'm already thinking of options with regard to an upgrade the problem is getting another board of the same spec I've seen an msi board with the same chipset as my current anyone know if windows home server will play nice or am I looking at a nightmare?

Cmos battery?
Update the bios?

andy.

I was thinking CMOS battery but it also does the same plugged into the mains even restarting windows causes it, don't the psu power the CMOS while it's plugged in also the board is an abit and I thought they were out of business? I do remember updating the bios not long ago but will have another look :)
