Very tempted to switch to PS3

The grass isn't greener on the other side, I would hold out until 2009 OR save up and buy a PS3 without sacrificing the 360, you may end up regretting it and buying another Xbox 360 which will mean you end up spending more most likely.

the issue some of you are having of noise while playing a dvd is puzzling to me as all my systems(my launch console, elite and halo 3 edition) are whisper quite while playing dvd's. the 360 even turns a fan off when playing dvd's to make it even quieter as well.

I sold my Xbox 360 due to lack of use so I probably shouldn't be buying a PS3 but I really have enjoyed the Metal Gear Series (Even MGS2) and want to play MGS4. I know £300 is a lot just to play a single game but I'm hoping there will be others, I am also very interested in getting the PlayTV when its released as a PVR would be really handy.

I would like to buy a PS3, but there's a few things stopping me.

- Confusion over backwards compatability. There's no way I'm buying something that will play PS1 games but not PS2, sounds like some kind of frankenstation.

- I don't like the design. I hate curves on electronic items, it makes them look tacky and also makes them harder to position with the rest of your electronic items.

- I'd have to buy a HDTV to get the full experience of gaming on it, or find a way to display the PS3s output as 16:9 windowed on a 16:10 monitor.

- I think the PS1 backward compatability is all done by software (emulation), the PS3 (60gb) used to have a dedicated chip for PS2 backward compatability but they removed it. But i reckon they'll work out how to emulate the PS2 stuff via software soon enough. Im pretty sure its already been emulated for the PC, so it's possible to do on the PS3

- Sit the PS3 on the top of your stack of electronics if the curve is a problem? Although, personally i'd keep it away from anything electrical that throws out any heat.

- HD Fury?

My PS3, despite only have 8 games for it, gets used about 10 times more than my 360, which i have over 20 games for having owned it 18 months odd longer.

The PS3 does everything better than the 360.

IMO the 360 does plenty of things better than the PS3. Although there are some things that I feel the PS3 does better, such as media streaming and DVD playback.

I cant think of anything the 360 does better, it certainly isnt anything substantial if it is, because all the main things, playing back media of all kind, internet connectivity, and indeed playing games, the PS3 does it better.

Not to turn this into a console war, but i dont think anyone can doubt the 360 does community better than the PS3, not online gaming, but the actual community side ie voice chat, in game invites etc. To me that seems to be the only thing the 360 does better, controller, noise, games are all subjective but the community side i dont think you can argue with at the moment.

Thanks for the comments guys. I think I would have to have one or the other. Just can't justify having two consoles.

I am really jealous of you guys who have got quiet 360's. My first one which i sent off the Microsoft cause the video card stopped sending a signal was quieter but still loud. The refurb I got back is even louder!

What do people think of that Lian Li case for 360's? That would make is quieter but I have no idea how much it costs.

How does the PS3 'play games' better?

For me, the 360 pad is better, this is rather key in playing games for me. The actual choice of games, again for me, is MUCH better, in terms of what is out now and what is coming out. Many cross platform games are reported to run better and look better on 360 over the PS3 as well.

Just to clarify, I have both so am completely unbiased in this. These are also only my opinions.

I might buy a PS3 soon but my 360 won't be going any where :P

Best thing to do if you are on the bench and already own one of the consoles is to save up for an extra month r 2 to get the other one without selling. People always seem to sell there other consoles then regret it, not for the new stuff coming out but for the old stuff they want to play :)

Well for instance, My ps3 doesnt throw up "disc cannot be read" errors halfway through a record lap, boss fight or level, it doesnt drop its net connection and ruin a decent lap either.
So thats a fairly large downer on the Xbox from my point of view and not something any amount of jibber jabber from you, or anybody else is going to change.
I've had a 360 since day one, and got a PS3 on launch day as well, the PS3 is just better in every way, dont get me wrong, my investment in my 360 stands at well over £1300 with the games console and add ons, but it just is not as good as the PS3.

And both dont get anywhere near the gaming usage of my PC either.

That connection error is at your end I'm sure, my 360 and PS3 both keep their connection just fine, as for the disc read error that's again on your side and not evident in all Xbox consoles.

So really "My Xbox 360 is half faulty thus my PS3 is better." in which I say no **** sherlock.

My Xbox 360 isn't that loud either, but I don't see the problem nor do I see why people whine so much about it.

As for the Lian Li case, again that won't make anything much better as the noise is from the fast reading DVD drive, you can either download a custom firmware and flash your 360 drive to run at 6x or slower (default is 12), but then I'm sure you will start whining about slow loading times. :)

Only reason the PS3 is so much quieter is due to the slow reading speeds on the Blu-Ray drive, fan noise there isn't much of a difference between the two, the 360 drones a bit though.

Sorry to hear that. However this isn't an issue I have come across myself so I can't really comment.

Chill Winston! As stated, my comments are MY opinion. I am not trying to change your opinion at all.

Congrats on playing your PS3 more than your 360. I play my 360 more than my PS3, purely because I have more/better games on it. The PS3 does get used more for media playback though.
