Very tempted to switch to PS3

Well yes it is, I have to respect that his opinion is his opinion only (of course it is) while at the same time its inferred that my opinion is invalid or wrong.

Gee whiz, its so difficult in here.

ah right gotcha ;)
I'm having a particularly thick day today methinks :D

Carry on people, nothing to see here.

Hey how ironic is that statement.

LOL?

Where do I suggest that your opinion is wrong? Your opinion cannot be wrong as it is your opinion!

I'd just get the PS3, as it sounds like the 360 isn't for you!..

If you want silence, BR and have a lovely HDTV etc, the PS3 will be fine, it's got the free online play you require...

My mates that like the PS3 sound similar to yourself, they don't mind waiting between games on the PS3 upto now, as they just watch the odd BR film, and download demo's etc, GT5P has a month or so's interest for most people which is about as long as most games last, then you can just buy BR's whilst waiting for the next big title, or wait until christmas time when the value game range is being launched, for the casual gamer that wants an all in one box for the bedroom it's a good thing..

Just to check, you had the VGA lead for the 360? do you use a monitor? If so, just check it's HDCP compatible, if not, then it's a moot point..

I have the 360 connected to my HDTV via VGA. Gives the best picture on my TV. If I went to PS3 I would use HDMI. Could I still channel the sound through an optical cable to my AV amp to give me surround sound?

noise

ive never found a noise issue with any of my 360,s

That statement made me laugh.

Anyhow, own a ps3 - borrowed a 360 from work twice to play Gears and Bioshock. The build quality and noise levels on the 360 are SHOCKING.

Took me about 3 weeks to finish Bioshock because I needed the volume so high to drown out the DVD, that I could only play if the wife was out otherwise I'd end up pi$$ing her off.

Honestly, every 360 game comes with a bonus "HHHUUMMMMMMM" soundtrack.

I wouldn't get rid of my PS3 or 360 anymore because they're both delivering great games this year and beyond.

You should probably get a PS3 though as you sound more interested in it than your 360. If you like the stuff coming out on PSN (some of it looks brilliant) and future games coming out then go for it.

I always laugh when someone says the 360 noise never bothers them when a game is running on it. It's great Microsoft have found a way to fix the problem by installing games to it as it was one of my main issues with the 360 (very close to selling it because I couldn't stand the noise).

Laugh away, I've never found it a problem with any game. That's over several different consoles as well.

The quietness of the PS3 is nice, especially for films, but I'd be hard pressed to tell the difference once a game started and there was a constant stream of sound effects/music going on. Plus I'd be concentrating on playing.

I can only imagine that people who find it an issue either sit right next to their 360 when playing, have the volume at a ridiculously low level (I only ever have it at what would be considered 'normal' living room volume - hardly room shattering) or just go out out of their way to be picky and would rather fault the console than play the game.

Its mainly at night that the noise bothers me, havent really got an issue with it during the day. But I cant play games at night simply because I cant get the volume loud enough to hear whats going on over the humming sound without waking everyone up. Its a pretty major issue tbh.

I think some 360s must be worse than others because my brothers is really loud when a disc is in. The problem with that for me is I'd have the 360 on my desk next to my PC that Ive spent a lot of time and effort on making as quiet as i can.

Thats why I'm looking forward to this update that supposedly allows you to copy a game to the hdd and play it from that so the disc wont spin. If this is the case I'll get my self an Elite, coupled with the newer chipset it should be pretty quiet.

I believe this is the point where some retard is meant to come into the thread and tell every one to stop debating and discussing things, and if you can't get on then don't post.

I love it when people slate the 360 build quality, the console doesn't feel cheap and is built solid, unless you are referring to the RROD, which isn't even evident in newer consoles I believe.

Also ironic, considering how much better built the Xbox 360 controller is.

How much heat does the PS3 kick out? When I had my 360 in my room by the computer (it's a small room) the room would get quite warm due to the heat coming out of the console.

A fair bit actually, i think this is down to the PSU being built into th console and the slower fan speed.

Wow you're easily amused, I guess you were one of the people that kept Little Britain on TV

No, I don't like Little Britain actually :)

When I say I was laughing, do you literally think I read the post and start going into crazy giggles? No, I don't and I am very sorry for exaggerating something.

The 360 is a noisy machine, if your trying to play it at night when other people in the house are sleeping then it's distracting and when I see someone saying that isn't the case then I start to question their judgement.

The quietness of the PS3 is nice, especially for films, but I'd be hard pressed to tell the difference once a game started and there was a constant stream of sound effects/music going on. Plus I'd be concentrating on playing.

If your telling me that the PS3 noise level and the 360 noise level are the same when running a game then I don't know what to say to that.

My point is it shouldn't be an issue anymore now that we can install games to the hard drive.
