Very tempted to switch to PS3

I am not a fanboy of either console, I think my ps3 is a good peice of hardware but the 360 is also a very good console.
Everything I say is imo.....
PS3 is quiter than the 360
PS3 gives out more heat, but it does not have a power brick that sounds like a jet plane
The 360 has more (good) exclusives
PS3 plays blu rays, but so does an 80quid bluray-rom drive for the pc

At the end of the day if you honestly want a ps3 then get one:)
I like my PS3, but looking back I do often wonder, should I have got an xbox??
I constantly wonder, should I swap my PS3 for a 360.....

Can either of you two read?

I don't care whether the XBOX is noisey or not, or even if every single console breaks after a year. If I had one I probably wouldn't hear it over the racket my cable box makes anyway and to be honest my PS3 is noisey when the fan kicks in and my brother's PS2 died after two years. WHO BLOODY CARES!

I just found it amusing that you're asking for "official studies" to back up a pointless argument that's been been going on for years knowing full well that there are none, although feel free to prove me wrong on this if you can find any. I hear Stephen Hawking may be writing a paper on this very subject after he finishes with quantum mechanics and the mysteries of the universe.

I've never gotten involved in these my console is better than yours debates - not even when I had a Megadrive and my brother had a SNES.

My point is that certain people on this forum are needing to lighten up a bit and stop acting like children or these arguments are just going to go on and on and on and on...

If you can find offence in these statements then perhaps you're one of these people but I'm sure that's not the case.:)

If your telling me that the PS3 noise level and the 360 noise level are the same when running a game then I don't know what to say to that.

No, I'm saying once I start playing a game then I cant hear the 360 over it as the sound masks the console noise, plus I'm concentrating too much to notice any background noise anyway. In that regard it's as noticeable as a PS3, i.e. not at all. If people have a problem when they are actually playing a game, I refer to the points in my previous post, as I cant understand why there would be any other reason to moan.

With both machines sitting in their respective dash's, or with no TV/speaker volume, obviously the PS3 is better. Ideally of course we would all like the 360 to be quieter, but I can honestly say it's never given me a problem since the day the console was launched.

as for the disc read error that's again on your side and not evident in all Xbox consoles.
You're right, it's not evident in all consoles

My Xbox 360 isn't that loud either, but I don't see the problem nor do I see why people whine so much about it.
Going by your previous comment above, you're contradicting yourself here. If the disc read error isn't evident in all consoles then quiet fans arn't either are they?

Only reason the PS3 is so much quieter is due to the slow reading speeds on the Blu-Ray drive, fan noise there isn't much of a difference between the two, the 360 drones a bit though.
Again, a contradiction and a totally incorrect statement. The reason the PS3 is quieter is because the cooling design is better and superior quality parts (fans) are used. How can you possibly make such a statement when atleast 5 different manufacturers have made the cooling fans for the 360?

100% agree

Just thought I'd point out, That a console giving out a lot of heat isn't a bad thing, As long as the heat is infact leaving the console. Which in the PS3's case, It is.

Other than that. This thread has gone the typical way.

KAPLOOWEE. :D

When it comes to the 360, what/how you place it can have a significant increase in the noise levels..

Glass shelved units for example can amplify the noise by a huge margin, my Sky HD and 360 sound ludicrously loud on my glass shelved unit. Some acoustic isolation pads applied to the feet, and the noise is considerably reduced.

When people make ludicrous claims that their girlfriend can't hear herself think over the other side of the room due to the 360's DVD drive noise then
A. You are just exaggerating for a reaction
B. You have got your 360 placed somewhere it's amplifying the noise/vibration of the 360, in which case use your common sense, it doesn't take much to sort it
C. The 360 is very very ill, and if it's in warranty, send it back..
D. Your GF is a moaning old witch, who just picks on everything just to have an excuse to moan at you, just tell her to sod off.. ;)

The discussion isn't just on DVD drive noise.

All your points seem very 'final' and not for discussion, you seem to be irrefutably right, meaning everyone with noise issues are deluded, exaggerating or have a witch for a missus. Of course, it would have nothing to do with the fact that shoddy hardware has been used in 360's would it ;)

5 different DVD drives, and a bunch of different Fans through out the consoles. can't all be top class, You're gonna get different levels

My brothers new one is near silent, mine isnt too bad either. But my buddies is awful.

drives all run at the same speed apart from benq
whats the difference all made to the same spec
fans are the same all designed so the same spec you know?
does not make them shoddy in either case
or is the original 60gig ps3 shoddy now too

I actually think the 60gb PS3 is better than the 40s. Or atleast the Jap one is.

But it doesnt matter if they are made to same spec, different company different build quality. Even if it's close.

what is shoody about the dvd drive and fans then
simply bad designed cooling not shoddy parts
The fans are made by 5 different companies, you're telling us all that they all output exactly the same fan? How is a noisy, whiney fan not shoddy when some of them are very quiet?

how is is shoddy
take it back to the shop its not meant to be like that
br drives in ps3 are just as bad dont make it shoddy neither company has good quality control

Shoddy – An inferior wool cloth issued in the form of uniforms during the early days of the war. The term later became the word used to describe inferior government equipment. It literally fell apart in a few weeks of being issued.

Hope this helps clear it up for you guys ;)
