Very Very slow Windows Performance

As of just today, my sister complained that her PC was very slow. After going to view her PC.. all the icons for the desktop shortcuts etc were not showing and it was taking literally 5minutes to open up Firefox. I restarted the PC and it is fast to turn on with no problems and the icons showing correctly this time but yet again the moment i get on to desktop it is really slow. I managed to run memtest with no Errors - doing a virus scan on Trend Micro right now but taking forever. I'm guessing there is a problem with my HDD. Not long ago I swapped out the HDD inside her PC because it was dead and gave her one of my decent ones and it had been fine for several months until today.

Windows XP
E6600
OCZ 2gb 6400MHZ
Gigabyte P35C_DS3R
Corsair 450w

Any Suggestions please!

Is the HDD nearly full? that often causes slowdowns such as this, if over 80% full try deleting some stuff, run defrag and if you go to pcpitstop and run their test it will tell you if you have any spurious services running in background that might be causing it

HDD is 750gb and no where near full and ill try that PCpitstop but ive had a look through the current processes and they all look normal.

oh and i've just gone into the other room to find the PC has bsod.

Error Msg:

Stop : 0x0000000F4

Along those Lines

oh and now since the BSOD it says their is a windows File missing and I can't get into desktop.. it feels like the HDD is dieing again. I guess I will have to repair the windows XP file but Could the motherboard be killing off my Hard Drives? It was a B-Grade Mobo from Overclockers.
