Hi!

the last 40 days I have this very strange problem with my PC:
when I start it for the first time in a day, it freezes up during the Windows load up(XP and Vista). If I do a soft reset it worked like a charm. It even works if I soft reset immediately after the first power on!! Any ideas??

C2D 6600, 2GB DDR2-800, Asus P5B, Geforce 8800GTX

Hard drive not spinning up in time?

On second reboot its already spinning and gets up to speed to load windows.

Not sure but I have heard of this in the past when the HDD is on its way out.

Had this problem before and then it was caused by the psu, had similiar problem on another machine and the cmos battery was dying. If you don't have a spare psu to test against your current psu, try a low spec graphics card (say a 7300 or so) as this won't need so much power and may point to a failing psu. :)

I have also suspected the PSU...Its a Tagan Easycon 520W. Having calculated my PC's power needs, I found out that 420W are enough...I dont have any spare PSU neither am old card

well, its not the PSU!!! I tested my PC with a Corsair 620HW and it had the same behaviour. However, it started normally and then after scanning all the USB devices it stacked again. maybe its a usb device...
