very weird problem? black screen

my new gtx 970 seems to work great but when I enter a pritty dark area of a game my whole screen goes black! its like the signal is lost to the monitor but the sound is still fine and the game is still playing,for instance I was playing shadow warrior just now and entered a cave,the whole screen went black,i turned the torch on and picture comes back again? I don't understand it?

I noticed it first 2 nights ago while playing battlefield 4 on night operations,when I entered one of the warehouses the whole screen went black,then some gunfire and tank fire close to me and the picture came back? it seems to only happen if there is no light source directly next to me or pritty close by,

has anyone else encountered this strange problem? my games are NOT crashing,just seem to get a black screen when in dark places on games,do you think it could be a driver problem? or the actual card?

Never seen this problem before, i would check your cables are plugged in properly and reseat the card in the slot to make sure its in there properly, then like you said check the drivers, run DDU and install the latest.

Your monitor doesnt have any wierd low light settings or low power modes that could be kicking in?

no monitor dosnt have any modes like that,when I first got the card it worked great and didn't have this strange issue,it only started the other day,also when I boot my pc the screen stays black for longer than it used to? the only thing that has changed/happened from when card was working fine is windows 10 updated the gpu driver for me when I didn't want it to,but would this also affect the windows 10 logo when booting? oh some of my screen savers are VERY faint now as well,if I use the windows 10 rotating 3d screen saver the screen looks almost pure black as if theres no logo at all but if you look closely you can see the windows 10 screen saver text spinning round but its VERY VERY faint.

I'm going to try uninstalling my gpu drivers and re installing them,is ddu safe to use with a amd board and cpu? as I read somewhere not to use it if running a amd system? do you choose the drivers to uninstall with it?

ive tried reseating the gpu but no change,ive done a google search and theres only 1 other person who had the exact same issue as me but he solved it and didn't post how :(
 
am I right in thinking ddu ONLY un installs the graphics card drivers so will be safe for me to use?
 
think ive fixed the problem,i used ddu and done a fresh install,now the screensavers are working again so I'm sure its fixed :) ive also noticed that under NVidia control panel it has set my dynamic output range as limited and I changed it to full last time so maybe that's why it went funny,could changing it to full of caused this problem? lol anyway I'm sure its sorted now :)

EDIT: just changed dynamic output range to full and the screen went dark again when playing in dark areas,changed it back to limited and all is fine,after all that it was the dynamic range output lol ahh well at least its sorted

Good stuff, hopefully next time someone googles it they will be shown this thread instead of the one where he solv d it in secret. :)
