Very Wierd Thing

Right I just purchased a s"one off build" from OC'rs
And it came with a Q9450 yorkfield 2.66Ghz

On the windows system properties it says it's 2.66Ghz
(8x333.3mhz)
But on CPU-Z weird things are happening...

1. my core speed is changing from 2.6 to 2.0
- sometimes its mainly 2.0 and then jumps to 2.6 for a split second
every now and then. And sometimes it's mainly 2.6 and skips to 2.0
for split second every now and then.
2. the reason for this is the multiplier is changing from x6 to x8 to make
these changes.
3. my voltage is changing quite a lot 1.052 to 1.094 ranges it changes like
once a second.

... I haven't seen this one any other system I've had before.
I don't even know if it's maybe just CPU-Z messing around does anyone
know other programs that show real time CPU clocks?
Or if this problem is actually real or just messing with me lol
Any ideas/reply is appreciated thanks.

It's speedstepping & C1E - your clock speed will be reduced when the CPU is idle/doesn't need the power.

Can be turned off in the BIOS if you want :)

Yeah I figured it was something like this, but it looks very unstable.
jumping around to such huge changes every few seconds... Also as
I said I guessed as much so watched it under load (playing L4D) and it
was still skipping to 2.0

Given what I've said about it skipping around would you reccomend leaving it
on/off?

Additionally EVGA 780i is my mobo, would anyone know what this option might
be called?

thanks for the reply

Disable Speedstep & C1E for now just to make sure it is actually that making the clock speeds jumpy.

Hey the speedstep was already disabled but the C1E was enabled.
So it was changing the power around and I'm guessing that was why
the changes were so glitch like as it wasn't speedstep but just randomly
changing because of the C1E.

all sorted now though thanks :) 2.6 constant

Cool :)

If you do want it to decrease clocks when the CPU isn't in use (temps and power usage will be decreased) then just enable them both again.
