Hey all as the title the past few days i've had some very weird things happen in windows 11, my current setup is

5950x stock or oc or 4.7ghz all core
teamgroup ddr4 3600mhz ripped kits (4x8bg)
asus maximus extreme x570
samsung 980 pro 500gb m.2 boot drive
2tb samsung 860 evo games/storage drive
custom loop 2*420mm rads

as above in many of my games i play i've noticed my cpu power draw goes insanly high to the point that my whole pc resatrts, i observed 121amp cpu power draw when i launch the following games

far cry 4
far cry 5
far cry 6
mass effect andromeda

as soon as i click on any of the above games my pc just resarts, i have looked online and found nothing as of yet, i did for safety remove my cpu/gpu and ram overclocks to see if that would help but i get the exact same thing happen, changing to balanced power mode in windows isnt helping either :(

i can run the following games with out problems and at maxed settings too with my overclocks applied too

bfbc2
mass effect legendary edition
cyberpunck 2077
the division 1
the division 2
horizon zero dawn

my current os build of windows 11 pro i'm using is 22000.258 version 21H2.
I have updated my chipset driver to 3.10.08.506 and before installing that i removed the old version beforehand.
I've loked into event viewer and found Kernal-Power event id 41 has anyone else got the above problems.

please help

Not sure, I know windows 10 licenses work for 11, but never tried the other way around.

You could always run Windows 10 without a key for the X amount of days whilst they fix the bugs in 11.

It's also not 100% that 11 is your issue here... but maybe a good starting place.

Do you have another hdd you could install 10 onto without the key to test?

Did you run win10 before upgrading without these issues?

downloading windows 10 iso from the media creation tool, i did a quick test and disabled smt and managed to run andromeda but windowed and still the cpu hit 106amp draw but didnt resart, its a funny one to say the least but have windows 10 almost ready.

i ran 10 before and did the upgrade, ran pretty well but had some performance iseeus in a few titles so i fresh installed 11 and it was working a treat, not sure whats happened

Definitely amps, on the mobo readout my core temp sky rockets past 90 and then pc restarts can happen at stock CPU speed or oc, I managed to disable SMT and got one game to run but amp's were over 100 and CPU temp was high 80's but didn't crash, I don't know what's going on.

I'm installing windows 10 as I speak

installed windows 10 and sad to say exact same thing is happning, lauch any of the above affected games and pc just restarts, only things i've changed are mobo and os

Maybe try a bios update incase something has borked.

i did that the other day 0402 is the latest, i just ran cyberpunk just at max settings and had no probles at all which is so weird as far cry 4,5 are fairly old now but somehow resart my pc alnong with farcry 6, in cyberpunk i observed 122w cpu power draw with temps in the 65 degree region with a all core oc of 4.7ghz and with smt enabled, i dont understand why most of my games dont work anymore even going back to windows 10

this is my screen grab from a cyberpunk run, via hwinfo64

If you recently updated the bios then I'd still consider rolling back to the one you had before to rule out a bios issue especially since your experiencing this on both versions of Windows.

what are you reading your amps with? I just stressed my 5900x with HWinfo64 open and saw 140amps on CPU EDC and this is at stock so i wouldn't worry too much about the amps.

Your temps do seem high though

thats load temp in cyberpunk 1440p max settings

i see 120amps when i launch far cry games or mass effect andromeda and my pc just restarts, all fans go to max rpm

you dont have 120amps , that would be the power for an entire house. the fuse in the plug for the PC is either 5amp or 13amp. so you cant exceed that anyway. the ring main circuit might be 16amps or 32amp (im not electrician). our floor trak at work is broken up into 32amp tracks. for about 25 desks. so you have your amps mixed up with Watts or something else

I take that back. im talking nonsense. the VRMs convert it some higher voltage/ampage. its things beyond my knowing, i will bow out now,,

rolled back to 0211 bios and so far so good can run andromeda and not crash, cpu power still goes nuts 140w+ but temps are pretty good at or just below 70 degrees with oc or lower at stock, though auto volts can sod off at 1.61v, that's absurd, set a manual volatage of 1.25v instead, going to install the farcry series one at a time and see if my problem persists but as above andromeda is working with no issues now so i'm hopeful all my games will work now, hey might even go back to windows 11 :)

I see why you ain't an electrician :p

It's voltage that's the key here, don't compare domestic supply with computer 12v> usage , They a vastly different power wise!

Example ,

CPU 1.5v @ 120A is 180 Watts
240v Domestic supply @ 120A is 28800 watts

What is the CPU temp at idle and load after 1min?

If the temp difference is abnormal you could try re-seating your CPU cooler.

update to all i managed to roll back my bios to 0211 and having re-installed windows 11 everything has returned to normal, i can launch all of my games including the ones that would restart my pc, temps are amazing too idle my 5905x sits around 34 degrees and under gaming load is around 54-62, i think it was the lastest bios i updated to that was causing my problems but it'll all good now
