Morning all,

Woke up to some rather interesting news:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/formula1/20531638

It seems that Vettel may have performed an illegal overtake maneuver on a STR under yellow flag conditions.

If found guilty, that would mean Vettel would receive a 20 second penalty to the race, demoting him to 8th position, therefore making Alonso win the drivers championship by a single point.

the FIA have until Friday to make a decision.

Discuss!

Leave it.... Whats done is done... Celebrations and the tears have already been done.

Focus on next season now!

Seems like there was a marshall in front of him waving a green flag, and I think this takes precedence over any overhead warnings? Not sure. Seems like a lot of footage will be poured over in the days to come to determine what Vettal saw in those moments before the overtake.

To answer this specifically, yes flags overide the electronic boards.

There is already a lot of discussion in the race thread for Brazil if you wanted to take a look.

This video posted in the Brazilian Grand Prix thread shows that there was a marshal waving a green flag at the marshal point before the overtake.

And then from the BBC article:

Drivers are alerted to caution zones by an indicator on their car's dashboard display.

The yellow flag indicator in Vettel's cockpit is on the whole time.

If there is any discrepancy between what is displayed on a driver's dashboard and what is being displayed on the track, then the trackside flags and lights take precedence.

So I would say that it was a legal move.
