Veyron trumped already

0-60 in 1.67 seconds?! missile/rocket powered tbh.

how fast does the fastest roadworthy motorbike do a 0-60 in?

Dont VW have the longest car testing track in the world?

And arnt they quite possessive of it?

How are they going to test their motor properly?

especially when tiff had 200mph out of the macca f1 round there the tyres started blistering like READ THE RULES ON DISGUISED SWEARING!!

all this fastesr roadlegal car stuff is rubbish as theres road legal drag cars that will top 200mph in a 1/4 mile so no telling what they could do on ehre liesings 6km main straight!!!

oh and 0-60 in 1.67 on road tyres from rwd is cobblers, believe it when i see it.
plus the ultima gtr685 still hold the 0-100-0 record as it pipped the veyron by a 10th of a second :p

bike and out-fit with slicks does 0-60 in less than 2 seconds, using a yamaha worm engine ( think thats it's name ) and top speed just over 200mph, which is probably limited due to them only having to gears ;) and if you want to work out the Bhp per Tonne it was 175bhp and weighed 350lbs including fuel ( which was aviation fuel )

cheers

Nardo in Italy is the traditional venue for high speed attempts; it's privately owned still, I think...

Yup.

However, the Veyron was clocked at Ehra-Lessien which is VW-owned.

VW have refused access to companies such as Koenigsegg.

It's little more than a kit car, made by a bloke called Tony in Cheshire. I'l wager you could count the number of cars they sell on one hand. In the photos it looks like the engine bay is lined by steel chequer plate, hardly a cutting edge material!

There will also get in all kinds of trouble with Brabus due to the name and Saleen due to how similar it looks to the S7!

The fastest street legal car in the world is British!

It runs the quarter in 7.988 with an ET of 182.84. On pump gas! And road-legal rubber!

8.3 litre V8.

100% street legal, all steel and standard glass, it even has electric windows and full treaded tyres!

Not so - the market is sufficiently different between them and Brabus (primarily a producer of luxury tourers) to negate any proceedings.

Likewise, it would be impossible for Saleen to do anything.

thats strange as it was won by a guy with a 12 litre calibra at usc.think his names jon sleuth or something

Steve Pateman owns the Calibra - it ran an 8.2 quarter last year.

Andy Frost rolls a Vauxhall Victor:

As far as I know, he's not dropped under 8 seconds yet...

And John Sleath (;)) runs the Audi that I posted up there ;)

John Sleath :D

The numbers don't add up to me. There's no way it'll do 0-60 in that time. The street legal drag cars just about do that and they have more rubber under the back than you can shake a stick at and pop the front wheels off the ground in the process. The whole drivetrain is designed to dump that power down in a straight line.

They are running about 1500hp to do that but the top speed is just silly. Again it doesn't add up. The lakes cars that run that fast are streamlined to hell and run a lot more power than 1000hp, not to mention the 250kg of lead they carry to help hold the car down.

I'm sure the Gould Puma rocks under 2 seconds to 60....But then again, it's four wheel drive, has about 1000bhp and is built for sprints and hillclimbs...

Sleath's old car was this Saab 900:

Engine was mounted right under the windscreen and up front was a direct crank driven blower. It was homemade engineering sex

It is IMPOSSIBLE to accelerate much faster than mavity with tyres.

Anyone with A-Level mechanics can work this out. Maximum coefficient of friction between normal tyres and tarmac is 1 (and that is pretty damn hard to achieve) and so doing the maths the theoretical maximum acceleration perpendicular to mavity using friction based propulsion is g itself.

C/F = 1 means that if you push at the side of it with a force equal to the weight it will only just be on the 'verge' of moving. Obviously unless it is glued down it is impossible to get a greater C/F than 1 therefore. Incidentally this is why without wings it is impossible to pull more than 1g in the corner otherwise the car will simply slide which is why I always laugh when people claim they pulled 3 or 4, yeah right mate - keep dreaming!

HOWEVER The reason some cars (i.e. F1 cars) go slightly quicker than this is becuase by the time they reach 60mph they are already pushing down quite a lot of downforce, and also the tyres literally DO act like glue by having a hot sticky surface, some of the tyre actually lets left behind when the wheels slip a little. Anyway this is why if the wheels spin a tiny bit the coefficient of friction is slightly greater than 1 and you pull away faster. (So now you know the Physics of why racing driving starts spin the wheels a tiny bit!) However the tyres on an F1 car last about 80 miles...

Obviously with rocket power you can go faster...

Anyway so basically, for a normal road car where you don't want to be leaving black 11's , even with infinite power, 60 mph = 26.8224 m / s => min a = 2.73 seconds.

I like it when pompous theory work gets decimated by reality. ;)
