I have just finished building a great system and am using a 580GTX which is great.

Currently I am using the little converter dongle to convert the cable to vga (blue)

Q1. Will this have a lower quality pic compared to dvi/hdmi?

Q2. The port on the gfx card looked like a dvi connection but my old dvi cable does not fit. Is there a new version of dvi that I missed?

Q3 Is there a quality diff between hdmi /dvi?

Thanks :)

A1. Slightly lower quality though modern monitors are pretty good with VGA.

A2. The connectors on the graphics card will be DVI-I and nothing has changed. Depending on the model the card may also have other connectors. Can you post a picture of the connector on the cable?

A3. No.

Pretty much as Surveyor said, but I would add:

1. The VGA quality depends a lot on the monitor (and the perception of the user). With my monitors, I can notice a definite difference, however I know a lot of people don't.

3. It's essentially the same connection, but HDMI includes audio.
