Im curious as i have built a new pc and it currently isent working as yet as im not getitng a visual, i have had a small bit of visual to do with drivers but thats it.

currently my monitor is in the VGA port of the monitor and connected to a HDMI port on pc, should this in theory work.

I think HDMI and VGA are not compatible, i think you have to be using DVI to HDMI, though you may mean DVI.

what colour is connector you are using? white or blue? if white then you mean dvi/hdmi, if blue then your right in what you said.

Would that mean you were using a VGA-HDMI cable? I wouldn't have thought they existed given that HDMI and VGA are not compatable. VGA is analogue and HDMI is digital. As someone said earlier, you can only use DVI to HDMI.

sorry i was probaly not very clear in my original post, bit sleepy at the time with working mornings.

I have a VGA cable
curently my VGA cable is in the VGA port of my minotor, This cable is then running to a hdmi graphics card useing a adapter.

so it's like this

Monitor
VGA port----->VGA cable---->HDMI adapter>HDMIport

So this should in theory work but just send out a analogue signal?
just want to sort of clarify if this is my problem why I don't have a visual on my pc or this is actually the asus 1066 RAM issue with my motherboard.
Thanks for all the replys for before :)

If you've bought a VGA-HDMI converter then I guess it should work, but I wasn't aware they existed. I was under the impression that HDMI did not support analogue signals whatsoever, maybe someone else can clear that up?

Couldn't you try using a DVI cable (if your monitor has a DVI port) or a VGA-DVI cable/adaptor (using the DVI port on your graphics card)

sorry if this seems like im insulting you or being rude but what couler is your vga socket, is it blue or white?
I only ask as HDMI and VGA (blue 15pin plug) are most definatly not compatible, to do so you would need a digital to analog conversion that was taken care of buy a rather expensive converter box.

Defiantly VGA - HDMI adapters don’t exists you would need some sort of switch box which can cost a mint, is the below what you have?

Sorry for the second post i think this may help though.

this is vga(pure analog)-->
vga.jpg
this is dvi(analog/digital)-->
dvi.jpg

Dvi carrys both analog and digital signals so a simple converter than redirects the pins to wich ever way they need to go is possible so running vga through dvi is fine.

you know what hdmi is but for the purpose of this ill list any way.

This is HDMI (pure digital)-->
hdmi.jpg
and so is compatible with dvi -->
dvi.jpg

DVI is the cross over between digital and analog and so need to be present to allow the conversion

Pure analog
vga.jpg
is not compatible with pure digital

you either are mistaking dvi for vga and have some other problem than the signal, or somehow are trying to link vga and hdmi with a bogus converter bought from fleebay.
that or you do have a converter box of somekind with a fault.

Ah thanks for that it seems like the graphics card just has standard dvi. I have been useing vga for a long time so never knew that was what hdmi looked like :D
I basicly had a vga cable with this attached to the end
