I was nosing around and I turned up a Thermaltake VGA PSU on the net, they do a 450watt and a 650watt, they fit into dvd drive bay.
I find it a bit interesting and was wondering if anyone has one or has any thoughts on one, I was thinking of buying one as I like the idea of offloading GPU load to a dedicated PSU.

Thoughts please?

I've never heard of a PSU that fits into the DVD drive, but it sounds kind of nasty due to heat issues bound to crop up. Dedicated PSU for GPU also seems a tad unnecessary?

Now I could look up more about what you're asking about and give you the answer, but then you might as well google it yourself :)

You may find this thread of interest - link.

It seems to get a mixed response - basically if you have a decent PSU with enough power there's very little need - but if you're short on power for crossfire/sli then it can be a cheap alternative to buying a new PSU.

No tamiflu [or beer] for me - the collection point is twenty miles away, I don't have a car and no-one is realistically to pick it up for me - so it's Orangina, Ibuprofen and bed rest for me!

Valdai- thanks for that, I did google, just wanted to ask pc literate folks here.

Plec- thanks for link, I did try to search and didn't come up with that, but I guess I didn't look far enough back, many thanks.
It seems that it is old idea/tech?
If I could get one for £25 then I think I'd give it a try, but it seems in limited supply these days

it is an old idea, if its for a new system, its pointless, if your can get a single PSU to do it, its pointless.

Its purely for people who already have a decent PSU, and its not enough when they want to SLI etc, and they cba with selling there old one on, so it would mean forking out anothe r£100ish on a new pc as well as the GPU.

Only get it if you cant do it with your single main psu.

Np - searches can be a pretty hit and miss affair.

That all sounds very depressing - especially the beer part :/.

You can console yourself with the fact that there would have been a very good chance that the Tamiflu would have added to your woes as anti-virals are notoriously effective at making you feel crappier than you already feel.

I would go on to witter about how they’re only really effective at stopping the spread of the virus, a prophylaxis, unless you start taking them almost immediately the symptoms start – but I think the forums have a no ‘medical talk’ stance.

Basically, if you’re recovering, Oringina and ibobrufen coupled with paracetamol, if required to fill in the gap periods, is probably the best medicine. Oringina; because a mixed drink is better than plain water as it remains in the system longer and Ibufrofen because it’s more effective against fevers/aches/swelling.

Get well soon!

I've got an Arctic 700w just now with 2 x 22A @ 12v on the label, just thought a seperate gpu psu would give the gup clean power and relive stress from the main psu.
