I purchased a 22" V7 monitor from OC several weeks ago, with the intention of running my PC via the VGA & my 360 through the DVi with the use of an converter.

I have both component & VGA leads for my 360 so I decided to get a DVI-M TO VGA-F converter which I ordered via the bay see link

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI....from=R8&satitle=270115931022&category0=&fvi=1

Now the problem I'm having is that this converter has 4 pins around the flat blade on the DVi side (see ebay pic), my monitor however does have these 4 holes for these to go into  so I've been unable to use it :( Just wondering if those 4 pins on the converter are standard to DVi or not and if they are why does my monitor not have the correct input?

normally the dvi adapter goes into the card not the monitor :)

iirc the 4 pins have something to do with vga via dvi.

So this can't be used for my 360 or 1 like it?

I asked the seller and he was the one to confirm this was the bit of kit I needed after I explained my hardware situation :(

What other options have I got as its driving me nutz having to keep changing the VGA in the back of the monitor each time I want to go on the 360

errm, well theres diff versions of dvi, the adaptor you've bought is probably, errm, the other one ¬_¬

theres a couple versions that have less pins and so on. the question is, what gfx card do you have in your comp, if its onboard i can understand no dvi, if you do have a dvi out on the computer, just run them the other way around.

as someone said anyway, i forget the official names, but its something like dvi-i has the extra pins for vga passthrough, so a card with dvi ports has all the pins and if you connect a monitor with only d-sub it can use those pins and an adaptor.

i seem to remember something about my brother buying some really cheap card and wanted to use two d-sub monitors so tried to use a dvi-vga adaptor at the gfx card end but that card only supported dvi-d, digital only and the adaptor didn't fit.

What other way can I connect my 360 to the DVI on my monitor? or will have have to get a splitter for the VGA?

Also surely the monitor will only accept a digital signal through it's DVI port.

Could you not connect the PC through DVI and the 360 through VGA?
