Is there any noticable difference between the 2 cables on a normal HD TV (i.e not a monitor)?

Cheers

Also, are there any retailers doing a particulaly good deal on Live subscriptions. Obvioulsy we can't discuss where, but if somewhere is I will find it.

EDIT: there is a company doing the live supscription for 40 quid with 1000 free MS points.

How much are 1000 points worth? The 12 month XBL sub can be had much cheaper anyway.. especially bundled with a game.. youve just got find somewhere still selling them.

I got the VGA cable today, I have been using component on our Toshiba 32WL56 up until now. From the VGA, the picture seemed a little crisper, and a little smoother (if you kind of get what I mean), but the colours were awful, really quite bad compared to the component, so I am back on using component on that TV.

Edit: I'll add that I don't get as much picture noise from the VGA as I do with component. I would use VGa if the colours were better, but unfortunately, they're not.

all depends on the HDTV in the end. VGA on my Mirai HDTV is no different colour wise than the conponant leads that i have and thats not using a offical VGA lead either

Ah, i have a dragon VGA cable on my dell w2600 and its brilliant, some people say they are better than the microsoft cables for colour :)

I found the component cable seemed to make the colour more "cartoony" and overblown than the vga cable.

The colours with the vga cable seem to be more neutral and softer, but the other reason I got a vga cable is that it frees up the component socket on my plasma for my gamecube :)

Same :)

Running on a 37" Toshiba HD here and also a 19" Widescreen monitor...the monitor is where the 360 normally resides.

Looks great on both, wouldn't bother with component.

One thing to be aware of, not all HDTV's accept the same resolution via VGA as they do via component.
From memory a number of Sony and Toshiba LCD's will accept 1260x720 or whatever via component, but are limited to a 4:3 ratio via VGA, so Check your TV's manual to make sure it will support the correct resolution via VGA.

Component is a lot better to me on my Sony Bravia. Tried both with the official MS cables.

Tbh this comes up a lot, & I think a lot of it is in the eye of the beholder, rather than one being inherently better than the other.

Use my HDTV for my PC and 360, used VGA for a bit and continued using the cables when I got my HDTV (used to use monitor) but it got too much hassle changing the cables for my PC/360 when I wanted to use one of them so I got the Component cables eventually and colours are a bit better and overall it's a more sharper image. Running @ 1080i currently and it seems that moving to Component @1080i has put my DVD's to a higher resolution, not sure but the image was far clearer.
Oh and when I ran VGA it ran at 1368x768 (or something like that) using 1920x1080i now.
