Hi, having seen many of these threads pop up, and the answer always being, 'It depends'. I thought we could have a thread whereby people can post their comparisons.

For me.

TV : Hitachi 32LD7200
Monitor : Belinea 10 20 35W
MS Component @ 720p, MS VGA 1366 x 768
Comparison : Halo 3 TV ad (720p) + Just cause

I found the VGA cable to give a much softer image, both in the colours and in the lines. The colour seemed washed out. The component just seemed to give a more commanding, bold image.

The text on the dashboard is a lot cripser with the component cable too although with the VGA cable its a lot smoother, if you know what I mean.

I am personally sticking with the component cable as it gives me better colour and I like the 'crispiness' I get from it.

I hope people will find this thread useful and others will add to it. :)

TV : LG 37LC3R
Monitor : NEC 20WGX2
MS Component @ 720p and 1080i, MS VGA 1366 x 768
Comparison : about 25 360 games

The VGA is obviously a lot sharper with no overscan and as a direct result a noticeable reduction in jagged edges, especially in fight night 3. The colours are more realistic and with "tweaking" can look just as blown out as the component. The only disadvantage is I needed to reduce brightness slightly on VGA to get truer blacks. This test was also true for an LG LC2DB and a Samsung LE32R74.

To conclude I choose VGA for:

no overscan and as a result,
fewer jagged edges and can see all the screen
higher resolution and a much crisper image
truer colours.
