VHS to DVD software help , Ulead errors

hi ,
im trying to record some video tapes to DVD using a easy cap usb dongle and ulead software suppied with it but in getting this error when i try to record the video
"unexpected error. unexpected error. incorrect function"

can any one help me or suggest some free software that i can use instead please?
