I've been having almost continuous filesystem corruption troubles in Ubuntu (Edgy) with my two SATA drives. I have seen people referring to 'issues' with the VT8237 southbridge elsewhere and was wondering if this might be causing my problems.
Is there a way to get round this? I have seen disabling write-caching suggested, but I don't understand the implications of this for performance or other reasons. Should I do this, and will it sort my problems?
If not, and it is the SATA controller causing trouble, could someone suggest a PCI controller card that does work under linux, as I can't do without my two 320 gig drives... I've found it difficult to find recommended hardware for SATA cards.
I have already tried replacing the cables and updating the BIOS, neither of which appears to have made any difference.
TIA!
