Viable Microsoft office or alternatives?

Hi all,
I'm looking to buy Microsoft Office to replace my XP version but they are all buy yearly.
I want to buy a standalone product. I don't use it enough top justify a monthly price.

Can people recommend an option or alternative please? When did Office stop becoming standalone?

Office 2019 was the last boxed product.

Have a look at Libre Office

Open office or libre office
Are both free software
I don't use office very much but
They seem able to open stuff that was created
In Microsoft office as far as as I have used them anyway
And yes as mentioned Google sheets etc
If you don't mind Google being able to read your stuff
At least I assume they can which might or might not be correct
I didn't look into it as keep my documents stored locally
