Bigger box!
Spent bloody ages googling solutions and I'm not really getting anywhere :(

I have two pretty significant problems which are really ruining my chance to replay this great game!!

I can't get the resolution above 680 x 400. In the menu all I can change is the colours between 16 and 32 bit?!?!
All my googling tells me is that you have to change resolutions before playing the game but that's not the issue!!! Grrrrr

I also have the PS2 to USB adapter from that Jersey company which works a treat apart from the right analouge stick.
On the right stick or Z axis and rotation up is left, right is up, down is right and left is down.. Basically it's as if its beet turned 90 degrees to the right.

If you can help I'll hug you and stuff ;)

For the resolution, have you tried pressing the enter key on the res that you set? ie, use the arrow key to change to the res that you want, then press enter, don't scroll down and click on back/menu.

Unfortunately the only two resolutions I can select from are 680 x 400 x 32 and 680 x 400 x 16. When attempting to select a resolution it simply scrolls between the two

Problem #16

There are problems changing the resolution of Vice City; and/or the game crashes upon 'ALT+TAB'ing out back to the desktop.

Solution: It should be noted that the resolution can only be changed upon initially running the game (i.e. not after a gameplay has begun). Therefore, quit Vice City. Load it up again, and before anything else is done, simply head to display options and change the resolution. You must select the desired resolution with the directional keys and hit Enter to confirm.

Alternatively: Set the compatibility mode of the executable file to 'Windows 98'. Do so by: right-clicking gta-vc.exe (default: C:\Program Files\Rockstar Games\Grand Theft Auto Vice City\gta-vc.exe) -> Properties -> Compatibility tab -> check 'Run this program in compatibility mode for:', and select 'Windows 98 / Windows Me' from the drop-down menu. Apply, OK. And as pictures speak a thousand words, click here.

Alternatively: Uninstall any additional media codecs you may have installed previously.

Alternatively: Delete the SET file! Yes, this is stated in the above introduction, but is particularly relevant with this problem.

Alternatively: Download and run 3D Analyze. Use this program to force Vice City to run in windowed mode. Resolution should now be able to be changed without problems. Change it as desired - this new resolution will function when the game is next run normally (i.e. without 3D Analyze). This process may have to be repeated for every resolution change desired. Source.

I had the same controller-right analogue stick issue when i went back to play Vice City, its got a weird setup.

I downloaded a pre-made "Perfect PS2 controls" control config for GTASA from somewhere so maybe a google will bring up one for VC?

Thanks, saw that before I posted.
The only thing on that list I haven't done is uninstalling codecs, which I'm not gonna do. Still no luck.
Guess it's a lost cause on this comp, gonna install it on my main rig and see if it has the same problems...........

Cheers all though

Another dazzling console port!

A bit harsh. Vice City is one of the great PC games, even if it is a console port.

The only problem I've ever had with either of these games was a strange case of saves vanishing and later reappearing in GTA: SA. Other than that both games have never given me any real grief.
