So my bike's been nicked from the back garden, was locked up and they've been through the D lock with a pair of bolt croppers. It cost £300 when I bought it plus cycle computer etc.

Luckily it's insured, but I'm still really annoyed. Off to the police station to report it. Who knows it might be recovered :(

There's not a lot of point to this thread other than to rant.:mad::mad::mad:

Like the police will do anything! They'll give you a crime number, tell you to claim on the insurance and then put another little tick in whatever box is applicable.

That's all I'm expecting. But at least if they do see it on the off chance I might get it back. It's like the lottery, you can't win if you havn't bought a ticket.

I know it's not really the value of bike to need one, but did you install an ID chip in the saddle post?

Unfortuently not :(

Bad crack Burnsy. Sorry to hear that.

Did any of your neighbours see anything ? Is there CCTV in any of your neighbours gardens ? CCTV on a main street nearby ?

Nothing. I am contemplating putting some wireless IP CCTV in though.

Just got back from the Police station, the station officer was really nice and I had a good chat with him. There's an estate not far from where I am that is quite rough which is the likely source of this theft. There are regular police patrols who go around this estate and they will be made aware. So although I doubtful that I'll get it back at least there is a chance.

I've just realised I've had something else go missing too. 2 pairs of Powerisers worth £300 each. Seems they've got away with best part of a grands worth of stuff.

Just had a call from the police. They asked me a few questions about my bike, they found someone with one matching my description but they're not sure if it's mine or not. Even if it's not mine, at least they're looking for it, so that gives me hope I'll get it back.

Did they tell you where abouts they spotted the look-a-like?

No. I'm waiting for a call back from the PC, but I can't for the life of me find where I noted the frame number :( I hope it still has my other cycle lock on there to which I have the key - that would hopefully prove it's mine or not.

So remember people, keep serials and mark with UV pens.

so is it worth insuring my BMX? i mean i keep getting picked by 4 or more chavs when im out riding.. few times i got chased (they were on bikes) once they actually took my bike of me but i caught them and got it back.. what if one time they take it off me .. will insurance pay up? or will that be my fault? what other security things should i consider ? i mean i live in London n17 which is not the best area and there is a lot of scum around here..

That's totally dependant on the insurance company and the policy.
