About to buy a hosting package and domain with vidahost but it doesnt load up just says "The page cannot be displayed" is this a bad sign :eek:?

Also it says the domain will be fully in my control does this mean my details (ie MY add turn up in the whois details)
 
Ah well the main site works now might have been eclipse?

The site It doesnt come up with anything so thats a good sign

Incase anyone knows if you choose the hosting plan thats £29 a year and you get a free domain name for 2 years does that mean the second year i'd have to either pay them for the domain or can i xfer it somewhere else?

We use a different provider/network up in Manchester for Vidahost.com which means that our site is reachable when our customer's systems have problems.

However, in this case, the networking folk up in Manchester had issues which caused a little downtime to just the public Vidahost.com site. All customer sites/services, including billing&support, were unaffected :)

ste_bla - you can pay us for the renewal or transfer it somewhere else, no funny small print :)

Just to clarify on that - yes, we register domains with your details, always. We have no interest in any dodgy business such as trying to claim your domains as ours, since the very reason I started Vidahost was to get away from all of that :)

Edit: Also, if you can't see whois info, that's just the whois opt-out in action.

Thanks for the info Mr Beansprout, im surprised to see you are the man behind Vidahost, with 14k posts on OcUK id have guessed you were a lazy student type, not a successful business man running a well respected UK company. :)

Best of both worlds i say :) Though far from lazy!

Cannot stress enough how awesome Vidahost are, I have 2 resellers accounts with them and its been smooth sailing for almost 2 years now I think!

You will not be disappointed by your purchase :cool:

I signed up to them a week ago as they seemed ok, initially I was impressed because someone called me when the website server crashed, not the other way around, however I opened a ticket this morning, because e-mails that were bieng sent to my domains were bieng recieved about 1-2hrs later, still no reply 12 hours later :/

Strange mine has always been answered in minutes rarther than hours

That one was my fault, I altered the DNS after the earlier problems in this thread to split Vidahost between multiple servers and forgot to update the billing/support server's SMTP details. There's absolutely no way any queries get left that long normally, sorry about that :)

Compounded by those darn spammers....the server you're on has been fending off about 100,000 spam e-mails per day recently, not to mention a handful of accounts which were being used to relay thousands of spam emails - after a little attention today all is back to normal.
 
Ive been with Vidahost for over a year also, I demand some sort of discount! :p ;) :D

To be fair the service is faultless though. Recommended mr OP.
