I've been looking around and i've not seen any definitive audio and video editing package out there. And was wondering what you guys think is the best.

I want to basically chop up videos and resync them with funky tracks. Any help would be appreciated :)

They're all pretty good really just depends what interface you like, I like Avid Xpress (free version called Avid Free DV) because I like the layout and the way it works. Adobe Premiere is very good too and can edit pretty much any file type you throw at it (free trial on the Adobe site), other people like Sony Vegas for it's audio editing features but I'm not a fan of it.

I'm a big fan of Pinnacle Liquid Edition; it comes with all of Premiers features aswell as in built DVD authoring. It lets you edit in real-time and renders things 'on-the-fly'.
I'm sure you can use an unlimited number of video/audio tracks aswell.

For your audio needs, it has a real-time audio mixer and also has support for VST plugins.

I also think the UI is quite clean and intuitive, although i'm sure there's a lot of people that would disagree :p

I do quite a bit of video editing and use a host of good editing packages . I capture using Pinnacle 9 and edit with Sony Vegas 6 & Serif Movie Plus 5.I also us VideoReDo for clipping and loads of others , But I've been experimenting with a sound editing program from Magix . It is awsum for making music video type effects and will save them as .wmv .It has some really good effects . Just add your music and video clips and create a great show .The finished result can be imported in to a DVD making program and shown on DVD . The program was a freebie too from a PC magazine .
