Hi,

Think this is right forum to post this thread, if not please move it.

I am getting a Samsung 40" UE40H6400 TV, and I want to connect it to my computer, so that I can play videos on it etc.

I currently have a Palit GTX 760 2GB graphics card and was wondering if I used a DisplayPort to HDMI cable, would I also need a 3.5mm audio cable from the computer to the TV or will the DisplayPort to HDMI cable transmit the sound as well as the video?

I don't have a separate sound card, motherboard is a ASUS Sabertooth 990FX.

Thanks. :)

The card doesn't have a HDMI out? The Palit website suggests it does.

The spec on that adaptor states
Audio output over HDMI is only supported when the graphics card of the notebook or desktop computer supports audio output over DisplayPort. Several on-board graphics adapters such as Mobile Intel 4 Series Express Chipset in Notebooks (i.e. Dell E6400) do NOT support audio output over DisplayPort, even when HDMI support (Intel High Definition Audio HDMI Service) is installed for audio controllers. In such instances a separate audio connection has to be set up.

My current TV (which is a monitor with a TV Tuner; Samsung 2333HD) I want to utilise as a second monitor, so was planning on using the HDMI for that. But I guess I could use the DisplayPort to HDMI on that one, because I don't want audio.

So if I was to use HDMI to the TV, it will transmit the audio as well?
