Video Card trouble

Ok so i turn my pc off to get something to eat and everything was working. Come back, turn it on and there is no picture. All the fans are spinning including the one from the video card. It boots properly because i can hear the Windows XP jingle playing.

I have tried resetting the CMOS, but it didn't work. Put in my old PCI FX5200 and finally there is a picture. Thus meaning that the graphics card i have in it is broken (i have a 6600GT PCI-E).

Do these things usually happen? Like things breaking like this after they were working ten minutes previously?

Ok i have came to the conclusion that the card is dead. So im looking for a new one. The 8800GTS 320mb has always caught my eye. Will this card be ok for future games like Crysis and Bioshock on a max res of 1280x1024?

should be fine at those resolutions.. im using a BFG gts 320mb 8800 and im pretty impressed tbh at that resolution.. if you were after higher res (widescreen) then i would recommend the 640mb ;)

I agree. I'm using the same res and a 320mb 8800gts. I can max everything out and i'm impressed.

Easily done since I upgraded from a X800XT :D

Ok cool thanks for the info. I know Crysis and Bioshock aren't even out, but should they perform okay? Cause the recommended system requirements for Bioshock say a graphics card with 512mb VRAM. Will the 8800GTS 320mb be okay for it?
