Video Competition?

Evening all,

I had a search and found a thread from a few years back where the idea of a video competition was suggested, I'm guessing nothing came of that. The thread can be found here: http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=17534919&highlight=video+comp

I was wondering if we could reignite the idea? The photo competition seems quite popular so hopefully there are enough people who'd want to try a video one.

The main reason I'd like some form of competition is to get some C&C on my videos as I'm just starting out and want to improve.

Or maybe we could just have a "post your videos here" thread, it would obviously have to be moderated to stop it becoming another youtube clip thread.

anyway, what do the rest of you think?

I think you may be right, this thread was sort of to see how many people were interested. Judging by the number of replies I don't think we'll get enough to run a successful competition.

As for the time consuming part, yes making a film is likely to be time consuming, but if we have some restrictions in the rules of the competition then it might make a bit easier. We could limit entries to say 1min, then you won't have to spend as much time filming (probably) and it's also a little more challenging as you have a very limited time to do everything you want to do with in your entry. The photography competition is monthly (by the looks of it) and I think a video one should also be monthly, any longer and it might start to get forgotten about and lost in the depths of ocuk.

Anyway, before anything can happen we need to know how many people are interested! There must be some other people.

My only worry is that 1min is too short, and it will be too difficult to portray whatever it is that your trying to portray in only 1min, but I'm new to this so who knows.

I was hoping you would be. A few things we'd need to sort out are judges and criteria, I have no idea about either so I'll leave that to someone else.

One other consideration: The photo competition relies on the EXIF data to ensure that you don't submit a photo that you took before the competition date. Would we want such a rule, and if so, how would we know?

Well the only time I'm going to have to do much filming this month is in about 2 weeks when I'm on holiday, so I'm bias towards anything that can involve sunshine and sea :p

I vote for outdoors, as I expect a lot of my filming will be outdoors so will be looking for C&C and tips on how to improve that aspect.
