video conversation via MSN

Hi folks.

Been using MSN messenger to have video conversations with wifes family so she can see her nephew for a wee while now. Problem is that if video and audio are active the sound and video become choppy but if sound or video alone are on then they are fine when separate.

Im assuming this is an MSN fault as both parties are running >5 Meg connections with nothing downloading in the background.

Can anyone recommend an alternative to MSN messenger that will allow video calling without having to pay a subscription fee?

Skype is the best I've used for a combined video and audio!

I cant get onto the Skype website due to websense at work but i always thought Skype was something you had to pay a monthly subscription fee for?

Nope, its free to download and use for Skype to Skype calls but you can also buy credits and use it to call normal phones and mobiles!
I find its LOADS better quality than MSN for some reason!

As above. Video and audio is a lot better with skype than the msn offering
