Hi guys,

I have a H.264/MPEG-4 AVC file that I am trying to convert so I can burn it onto a DVD and play it on a DVD player. The DVD player supports DivX files and I'm trying to convert it but nothing seems to be working.

The DVD manual says:

Playable DivX file
.avi, .mpg, .mpeg

Playable Codec format
"DIVX3.xx ", "DIVX4.xx ", "DIVX5.xx ", "MP43 ", "3IVX ".

I'm using ffmpegX to convert it using the 'AVI DivX' (tried both mencoder and ffmpeg) preset and using the 'MPEG4 [AVI]' codec and it won't play on the DVD player, plays fine on my Mac though. I also tried it with the 'DivX 3 [AVI]' codec and the end file is just audio with no video

Am I missing something here? All I want to do is play the damn video on a DVD player!

Nope Handbrake got rid of all the other presets and just do Apple and normal conversions now.

Tried various different pieces of software and the ones converting to 'DVD' (mpeg2) give me weird sound

I think it's something to do with converting the sound, as the original video is AAC 5.1 and the DVD conversion is AC3 5.1, it just doesn't want to work.

FfmpegX refuses to work when I try and select stereo sound and throws up an error about not being able to down-mix from 6 channels to 2.

However, using ffmpegX to convert to DivX worked perfectly but the stupid DVD player wouldn't play it.

try:

That'll handle your format - and pretty much anything. Takes its time but good quality - manual settings even on the freebie.

You'll then need to rip with imovie or anything better - Encore, etc.

Sorry, can't suggest an all in one for your situation.

Brilliant, that actually works!! I tried so many different pieces of software and they all failed to work.

Converted it using that software, then burnt with Toast. Works perfect.

Thank you very much :)
