Hi all

Whats the best CPU for video editing and occasional gaming? The more cores/threads the better? Taking ages with my old Q6600.

Cheers

What about an Intel 5820K 3.30GHz (Haswell-E) (6 core / 12 threads) that should blast through recoding DVDs/Bluerays etc. I think the new broadwell/skylake are only going to be 4 cores.

Hi, the 5960x going to be a bit too expensive. Budget is around £700. Only need a CPU, MB, Ram and maybe a new HD.

I'm thinking of going for the i7-5820k or the 4790K (not much of a price difference between the two).

For the 5820K I was going to get the Asus X99-A Intel X99 MB
OR
If I went for the 5820K the Asus Maximus VII Hero Intel Z97 MB.

As you can see, I haven't built a rig for years so it's a bit of a learning curve....again.

Need to suss out the ram next.

Cheers
