Hello World.

I am looking to buy/build a new desktop for video editing (with gaming in mind as well). I do not need it to be pretty - but efficient when in use and quiet when not rendering/encoding etc videos or running games.

For video editing, I will primarily be using Adobe Premier Pro (2k-4k video resolution, with a decent number of post processing effects such as Neat Video) and as such I am heavily leaning into the Comet Lake + Nvidia RTX side.

Sadly video editing hardware requirements are rather new for me, so I wanted to ask whether any of your jolly fellas suggest whether the following build makes sense and where I may be missing a trick or have not considered some obstacles?

CPU: Intel Core i9-10850k 3.6Ghz
https://www.overclockers.co.uk/inte...ocket-lga1200-processor-retail-cp-68q-in.html

GPU: Nvidia RTX 3080 (What aftermarket model do you think has lowest noise and good durability.)
https://www.overclockers.co.uk/asus...dr6x-pci-express-graphics-card-gx-44k-as.html
-Do you think an RTX 3070 would suffice for efficient, post processing heavy 2k-4k editing in Premier Pro?
-Does the build allow for Intel Integrated Graphics? (I.e. To have a backup for display if I am messing about with the build with the GPU removed)

Motherboard: GigabyteZ490 Aorus Ultra (Socket LGA 1200) DDR4 ATX Motherboard
https://www.overclockers.co.uk/giga...-lga-1200-ddr4-atx-motherboard-mb-58h-gi.html
-Alternatively Aorus Epic (i.e. Save £100)

RAM: Team Vulcan Z T Force 32gb (2x16GB) ddr4, 3200mhz
https://www.overclockers.co.uk/team...-3200mhz-dual-channel-kit-grey-my-0aj-tg.html

M.2 Solid State Drive 1 (Primary): WDBlack 500GB SN750 M.2 2280 NVME PCI-E Gen3 Solid State Drive

M.2 Solid State Drive 2 (Scratch Drive for photo and video editing): WDBlack 500GB SN750 M.2 2280 NVME PCI-E Gen3 Solid State Drive
https://www.overclockers.co.uk/wd-b...-includes-heatsink-wds500g3xhc-hd-55w-wd.html

Solid State Drive 3 for Gaming/Quick Access files: Samsung 1TB 860 QVO SSD 2.5" SATA 6Gbps 64 Layer 3D V-NAND Solid State Drive (MZ-76Q1T0BW)
https://www.overclockers.co.uk/sams...-solid-state-drive-mz-76q1t0bw-hd-23u-sa.html

Mechanical Hard Drive (Storage of old materials/ source video etc) : Seagate4TB Barracuda 5400RPM
256MB Cache Internal Hard Drive
https://www.overclockers.co.uk/seag...nternal-hard-drive-st4000dm004-hd-37t-se.html
-Am I right to assume that while a 5400RPM drive will be slightly slower than a 7200RPM, it will be quieter?

PSU: CorsairRMx Series RMx850 850W '80 Plus Gold' Modular Power Supply (CP-9020180-UK)

Sorry for the long post :)

Thanks mickyflinn!

This is very useful feedback.
The case looks spot on for what I am looking for and indeed makes RGB version of the RAM unnecessary. Eisbaer 360 cooler also looks promising (although I would probably change it to a closed loop, as I am paranoid about leaks) if I was to go with this version. (Incorporated into original post)
Re GPU, may wait to see where the prices settle after the two GPUs become more widely circulated and I see some more benchmarks regarding performance in Premier pro (I currently play in 1440p but will likely shift to 4k after the year end). Have you seen any aftermarket comparisons of them folks?

Thanks Orbitalwalksh.

Updated my planned build:
Adopted the i9 10850k approach, amended the RAM to Team Vulcan option (given that a bit more speed does seem to help with Neat Video effect processing, which I tend to use a LOT for bloody drone and scuba footage), and considered the Elite vs Ultra form MB (depending on cost of final build may still keep the Ultra because of 3 M.2 spaces, as I will want to add 1 more later... I can never have enough Hard Drives).

Do you folks think "CorsairRMx Series RMx850 850W '80 Plus Gold" is the lowest PSU power I should go with (given desire to run a bucketload of hard-drives (adding a few of my older ones as well), and any comments on mechanical HD speed/volume question?

Any choke points I should consider or points of improvement you folks would recommend?

Yeah, elite .. if you zoom in on the picture. Bottom two m.2 are linked to South bridge. Top to CPU. But currently with specs it lists two m.2 with current 10th Gen.

Top M.2 will only work with 11th gen at 4.0 speed.

ULTRA, as you pointed out will work with 3x 3.0 m.2 regardless of 10/11th gen. And top m.2 would be 4.0 speed with 11th gen CPU

Thanks Orbitalwalsh. That makes sense. I assume we are looking at 2021 for the 11th gen Desktop processors though.

Hey Folks,

Thanks again, got most parts and waiting for last ones to arrive. In the end I went with the following parts for my video-editing & gaming rig:

CPU: Intel Core i9-10700k 3.8Ghz
https://www.overclockers.co.uk/inte...ocket-lga1200-processor-retail-cp-67u-in.html
-Planned upgrade in 2021, to a Gen 11 higher end spec.

GPU: Nvidia RTX 3080
https://www.overclockers.co.uk/asus...dr6x-pci-express-graphics-card-gx-44k-as.html
-Will wait to see which aftermarket options look more efficient.

Motherboard: GigabyteZ490 Aorus Ultra (Socket LGA 1200) DDR4 ATX Motherboard
https://www.overclockers.co.uk/giga...-lga-1200-ddr4-atx-motherboard-mb-58h-gi.html
- I decided to go with the Ultra - as I got it for the price of an Elite +£10

RAM: Team Vulcan Z T Force 32gb (2x16GB) ddr4, 3200mhz
https://www.overclockers.co.uk/team...-3200mhz-dual-channel-kit-grey-my-0aj-tg.html
-May update to a DDR4 3600mhz depending on specifics deals.
