Video Editing Rig - £1000-£1200 please

They have the larger display port on the Dell U2311h's plus DVI - I did a bit of digging and to get them to run I needed to get mini DIsplay port to DVI active cables for about £25 each.

Or so Im lead to believe!

But yeah great saving on the gfx - and once Sony pulls its finger out I'll upgrade the gfx card to make another improvement :)

Just wondering if Ive missed anything from my list.

Ive got the data drives, optical drives and a USB soundcard - anything else Ive missed ?

One monitor must use the display port the other 2 can be DVI or HDMI.

I can't see that OCuk sell a minidisplay port to fullsized display port cable. One of these would be cheaper (1/3 of the price) than the active adapter but I can't link to competitors bud. You'll need to keep doing your homework :)

Magic, Id already ordered mini DP to DVI active thingies from the forest as the ones on OCUK were out of stock - thinking ahead me :D

...and I remember the days when buying a new PC was simples. 386 mother board, 4 x 30 pin SIMMs, cpu already soldered to the board, VGA card and IO board - wala! :D

You only need one mate. Doesn't hurt having the one active adapter but seeing as your monitors have display port all you really needed was the cable (mini on end standard size on the other)

For some reason the cables dont seem to work with AMD cards and Dell U2311hs - someting about pin 20 being connected stops the PC from booting up. Checked all the out yesterday LOL

Just had a quick look at the issue. Seems some people were ok and others had problems. So yes I think personally unless i had the displayport cable lying around......I too would order an ACTIVE DP to DVI adapter.

Hard work this custom building lark isn't it lol

Mate, you wouldnt believe! :D

But ... Thanks to yourself, 5UB and everyone else on the forum pitching in I've clicked the fire button and ordered my new system.
