hi im looking for some video editing software for my son he turns 10 next Monday ive brought him a cheaper gopro type camcorder with a bike mount its a vivitar DVR786HD

he loves making mini youtube type vids all acted out with his friends so ideally get him learning some basic editing software

has anyone got an recommendations

I am in exactly the same position, I let him use my sony vagas but it's way to complicated so will be looking out for something simpler.

Bruy him a copy of Sony Vegas. Millions of others have brought it as well, so Youtube is full of tutorials. Make sure you bruy him a decent screen too, or if he's already got one, bruy him a second one as the value of extra screen real estate can not be overestimated when editing video.

Oh and bruy him a decent mouse if he's going to be spending any decent amount of time doing this.

Have you got a broken keyboard? You might need to bruy a new one.

OP get him Vegas, it's the most used and easier than (IMO) Adobe PP. Loads of tutorials on the web, my son and I use it most weekends and with my help he can now do the basics with editing.

Adobe Premiere Elements is another that you could consider which has a one off payment, where as Premier Pro is now monthly. :/

The latter is not as user friendly as some of the others out there like Vegas / Elements, but once you get the hang on the basics (fading in / out, cutting, transitions, etc) it's very easy. Much more stable too than Vegas in my experience, and has faster rendering times.

If it was me for a kid I'd suggest iMovie on the ipad.

Use the Vivitar app on the ipad to import the video over wifi and use iMovie to edit it.

iMovie is really good, intuitive and makes it easy to upload to youtube.

OpenShot. Even easier to use and FREE !!

OS 2 is due to be released soon too.

And before anyone whinges "But that's Linux" Make a bootable usb stick and install in that. Your PC then stays safe !

thanks guys appreciate the help
hes only ever played games on the pc so using any application will be new to him

so something that almost holds your hand learning an editing will be best
