I am looking for some good video editing software and I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions.

I was thinking of Adobe Premiere but are there any other packages I should look at?

You could edit in after effects but it would be a painful experience, its more for certain segements where you need some certain effects, like logos, simple animations, adding certain filters etc.But for an overall editor you want Premiere Pro or Sony Vegas.Hollywood uses mainly Avid but thats more to do with just what the staple program is, the others can do everything Avid can do (Cameron edited Avatar on Avid). If you have a Mac then you can try Final Cut Pro.My personal fav is Vegas for simplicity though now Premiere Pro has realtime cuda effects Im torn between the two.

Thanks db2431 for an excellent reply.

Yeah, I always understood After Effects as being a special effects program.

I think Avid's a bit out of my price range lol....£2k for a piece of software?? Ouch!

I've downloaded a trial of Sony Vegas so will have a go at that but I think I'll probably go with Adobe Premiere Pro as I've used Premiere before so kinda know my way around the basic bits.

I'm looking at building my Sandybridge system with video editing in mind (even though I probably won't be doing much of it) but I want to learn and would love to learn to use After Effects.

The Vegas renderer is horrible. The Premier Pro Renderer is smashing. Really efficient in rendering video. Not Tryed it with CUDA yet, but i have heard that quality via CUDA isnt as good? Maybe thats Just badaboom/Video Converters and not Proffesional Programs?
