I've got a couple of videos in a dvd format as well as some photos on another cd.

Does anyone know of any software where i can merge the two so i can play a video, then show some pictures, play a video and show pictures again etc?

sony vegas it's called

never used it mind, it's a rival to adobe premiere, but i think it's far simpler to use...

a friend of mine tried with adobe but it wouldn't read DVD formats. I would have to convert from DVD to AVI or something similar. The convertion takes quiet a bit of quality from the movie.

Been a while since i've done some dvd editing but im sure you can rip a dvd as two seperate audio and video streams and then mux them back together as a .mpg (no loss of quality as no conversion has taken place) file which can then be imported to any video editing software.

for some reason adobe wouldn't read a dvd format to work with at all. If i could rip it like you've described, that would be just what i need

Premiere is primarily a DV editing tool - all DV editing is (mostly) done in AVI or raw format, only reading MPEG2 at final render, that's why you have to convert up to AVI before editing.

But there should be no loss of quality as long as you convert up to DV and not some other compressed format.

IIRC doesn't windows movie maker let you do things like this? If not then Pinnacle studio should, no sense in the OP spending hundreds of pounds for a simple task like this.

i managed to get it done using the evaluation of Vegas. No way i can afford to buy it though!

I think the pinnacle studio will do most of what i need to do in the future though.
