Morning,

Is there such a thing on the net as free video editing software, have a few short clips from my mountain bike rides that I would like to edit into a half decent vid.

Can you not use Windows Movie maker? Alternatively see here.

Windows Movie Maker 2.6

If you want to 'finish movie' in HD, you need to install plugins. Instructions & download here. Works on Windows 7.
