Money doesn't matter, I am a beginner, so don't need anything too advanced, but I find that HD movie maker ont he mac as standard not good enough.

Its really just to film stuff and put it to music and be able to edit, nothing too fancy.

Sounds like you definitely don't need more than imovie HD even though you say it isn't good enough as standard - it will do all that you need (film stuff, edit, music etc as you say)

Would definitely say iMovie as well - otherwise you're going to put yourself out of pocket for little benefit.

Maybe I should try and get iMovie 08?

I have the 06 HD - I hear 08 has lots of extras, but what are they!?
